Who is COLETEK?
We are an innovative makerspace lab - entrepreneurs, inventors & companies
come to us to turn ideas into reality...
We work on a broad range of hardware and software projects, such as:
prototyping, product development, autonomous systems,
mobile robotics, computer vision, AI, electronics, computer
security, surveillance, graphics and IT.
We also review complex problems, with the aim to find
We are able to do all this due to our long-standing and active background in
Australian Robotics R&D since the 1990s.
The CEO and CTO of the team is
Luke Scott Cole [B.Eng. &
B.Tech(IT)]. Luke Cole has a history as the "go to
man" for many colleagues, and is well known to have "a knack for
making things work". Luke Cole has had extensive experience
working with leading autonomous mobile robotics industrial and research organisations such as Hemisphere GPS (formerly BEELINE, and now acquired by AgJunction), NICTA (now called CSIRO Data61), CSIRO ICT Centre, Seeing Machines and the "Robotics Systems Lab" at Research School of Information Sciences
and Engineering at the Australian National University (from the age of 16).
To learn more about Luke see his LinkedIn page or
personal home page.
Luke Cole comes from a family of tech-heads with very humble
beginnings in Southern Highlands and Wollongong, NSW. Luke built his
100% custom robot in 1992 aged 11, and second
mobile robot at age 13. The Cole family crest motto is
"Persevere". His grandfathers (both coal miners and war vets) retried
to play with tech. Before high school - one of their grandfathers (Ken
Clark - RIP) taught him fitting and turning, and the other grandfather
(Ken Cole - RIP) taught him electronics (soldering, troubleshooting,
PCB rework) and computers (Commodore 64, Amiga 500). Before high school
- his father (Shane Cole) let his two sons use nail guns to build a two
story cubby house between two trees, and showed them how to draft
building plans, and use various power and air tools. Luke earned the rank Sargent
in Cadets a high school, and was very keen and skilled at mathematics at high school, coming 2nd in 4 unit maths ("Geordie Williamson" came 1st, and went on to be the youngest living Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) in 2018 at age 36).
Luke's father has a
background in hardware as a brilliant craftsman and automotive
mechanic, before completing a Diploma in IT after studying UNIX
computer systems. Luke's brother (Lance Cole), has a background of
various hardware development, such as working for a contract company
to the US military (EOS),
building the Common
Remotely Operated Weapon Station (CROWS), and robotics research
and development at the Research
School of Information Sciences and Engineering at the Australian
National University. Their mum (Chris Cole) worked very hard to
put Luke through good schooling, so that his dreams could come
true. Their mum also found a newspaper about the Robotics Systems Lab in
ACT, and after writting a letter to Alex Zelinsky
(AO). Luke (age 16), was invited to the Robotics Systems Lab for
an interview to show his skills and experience. Luke was then hired!
The rest is history. Love you Mum!
The COLETEK team is comprised of a small group of very talented unique
individuals. Each have been passionately learning and developing their
technical arts since childhood. Together we bring a wealth of
experience and cross-pollination of skills. This allows us to provide
you with the most ideal solution for your needs.
outset of each project, we put great focus into reviewing the target
unit cost, target volume and keep reminding our clients of Minimum
Viable Product (MVP). In the surveillance and computer security
space these skills allow us to provide state of the art or custom
solutions, which we expect will save you money on potiential
Most of the profits from COLETEK are put into
our research and development interests to provide a better
world. These interests vary from understanding the universe, our
planet, and the evolution of human society and their needs to live
long and prosper.

Hardware+Software Projects Timeline Playlist (Not Everything!)
Originally, we were located in south-west NSW and ACT in the 1990s
and early 2000s working at the age of 17 with the mobile autonomous robotics and computer
vision pioneers known as the "Robotics System Lab" at
the Australian National University (ANU), within what was called the
RSISE department at the time. This work flowed onto NICTA, CSIRO and Seeing Machines - all at Canberra at the
time. During the 1990's Luke also made and sold FM transmitter bugs
and laser pointers using the bus route to school as the distribution
line to his resellers in various schools. From 2001, Luke founded and registered this business at the age of 20
years old, and starting selling electronics online while continuing to
work for the prestigious "Robotics System Lab".
2009, Luke relocated to Queensland for a better balance between work and
family - first working with Australia's first Ag auto-steering system
by BEELINE (aka Hemisphere GPS) in Brisbane. In 2013, Luke relocated to
the Gold Coast and COLETEK became a full-time focus. We now offer our high-demand of
high-tech services and skills for Australia and World itself. To date,
our services have conversed to mostly prototyping, product
development, robotics, computer vision and AI for our clients
interests. In 2022 - we have also started developing and selling products of our
interest, such as a "Biogas
Digester" and the "Clean
Earth Bot". We also developed a mobile robot testing platform that
has been active since 2011 - we call him the "Scotty
Luke's history is deep, complex and broad - working on a number of
world firsts, or close to, such as working
with ANU to develop a SmartCar
back in 2001. In many other cases the work was done solo, or close to, such as the
"World First Full Tractor
Automation by Luke Cole" in 2010, and a "Quad Bike ATV
Robot" robot which sold in 2016. Along the way, many world firsts
of various consumer-like products and prototypes have also been done for clients.
2001-2003 (ABN 16 056 740 186)
Founded in 2001 by Luke Cole
[B.Eng. & B.Tech(IT)] and Francisco S Silva, was designed as
a automated online electronics shop. To supply customers with
electronic equipment such as computer goods, electronic circuits
and robotic devices, at anytime, anywhere. Using automation and
e-commence to reduce the business overheads and therefore
providing competitive prices.
2004-2013 (ABN 98 488 911 319)
After the unfortunate death of Francisco S Silva in 2003
(R.I.P. SILVA), ETECK was reborn in 2004 as COLETEK, to refocus the
business on brainstorming future shopping methods. This resulted in
COLETEK releasing a website in 2006 called LowZo.com, which
provides a sole website for any business and individual to sell/modify
their products and services free of charge, while allowing the
consumers to have a price comparision website. This type of website
maintains convenience and consistency in customer service. LowZo was
in competition with shopbot.com at the time which was bought
out (or owed) by
Amazon. The purpose of LowZo was to allow staff of COLETEK to focus on their true
abilities: robotics, automation, product development and
After running COLETEK for 10 years, the business was reborn in
2014 as a company, to refocus the business on providing great services
for great people doing great things. This allows us to also design and
develop the future world to further great things!
